We’ve asked a few doctors to provide us with their take on COVID-19. . .

“The COVID-19 pandemic presents a complex issue for health systems across the globe. While many patients and providers are justifiably concerned about the health of themselves and those around them, it is important not to panic. This disease is serious, most affected patients will have mild symptoms like fever and cough but some patients will develop severe symptoms like respiratory failure that could necessitate the assistance of a ventilator to breath. The best things that people in the community can do now are: maintain proper hand-washing hygiene and continue social distancing. While it is difficult to say how long social distancing will last, it is imperative for both preventing infection and decreasing community propagation of the virus.”

“I don’t believe the fear is worse than the disease. If you look at the number of fatalaties, especially in Italy and even the U.S., this virus truly is a serious matter. I think social distancing will last for about 1 month.”

“As a Naturopathic Doctor who normally works in a non-urgent clinical setting in Canada, I haven’t had much direct exposure to COVID-19. I have, however, worked with many who are experiencing anxiety, fear, and mood changes that have come with both news of the virus as well as the rapid changes to everyday life. I have friends and colleagues who work in the hospital who are afraid of what is to come, patients who are scared to go to work, and those who are fearing the consequences of not being able to work. In my immediate world, the anxiety and fear seems more a threat than the actual virus itself. That being said, I think it is important for our physical health and the health of our global community to heed the warnings and precautions, follow the advice of our experts and leaders, and practice proper hand-washing and distancing. A few inconveniences for the potential benefit of many around the world is worth it. However, it is just as important to practice coping strategies for mental and spiritual health during uncertain times like these where panic can spread even faster than COVID-19. With so much uncertainty and an ever changing global landscape, without having a clear idea of how long this will last, it is important to continue to find creative ways to connect with nature, loved ones, and the global community as well as maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle.”

“COVID-19 is a serious health crisis in America. Especially at risk are the elderly, who are dying from complications more than any other age group. Social distancing is the best and simplest tool we have to reduce the spread of this virus at this point. Unfortunately, there is not official word on how long social distancing will last and even more harrowing is the unknown financial turmoil this creates for American families and individuals. Everyone should do their diligence to maintain cleanliness and follow sanitary guidelines. Naturopathic doctors implore many preventive strategies in fortifying the immune system. You may consider seeing one if you are curious about these types of strategies. There are many incorrect natural remedies floating around and it will save you money and confusion by seeing a Naturopathic Doctor! There is currently no FDA-approved treatment for COVID-19. Fortify your immune system, find ways to de-stress, and maintain social distancing.”
